Notifications

The bell and the Notifications page: mentions, replies where you wrote and tasks assigned to you, read and unread, and who is typing.

SPARK tells you what concerns you: someone naming you, a reply in a thread you wrote in, a task given to you. It all arrives live, as it happens, with a count on the bell.

The bell

The bell sits in the sidebar's first row, beside Search. While you have unread notifications, a badge on its corner says how many (up to 99+), in the workspace's colour. Click the bell to open the Notifications page.

What you are told about

Each notification is a line on the page, the newest first:

  • mentioned you in: someone named you with @ in a channel you can read, for example Tom Becker mentioned you in #fee-checks, or in a direct message.
  • replied in: someone, a person or an agent, wrote in a thread you follow: one you wrote in, or were named in. Every new reply joins the one line for that thread, which moves back to the top and names the latest people who replied, such as Tom Becker and Spark.
  • messaged you: someone wrote in a direct message you are in, where every message is for everyone in it. An agent's answer in your DM with it comes this way too, when you were elsewhere as it arrived.
  • assigned you: someone gave you a task, for example Tom Becker assigned you Check the Kestrel Euro Bond NAV.

Under a message's line, the first line of what was written. You are never told about your own messages, nor about a thread or channel you have open at that moment, nor about a task you gave yourself.

Read and unread

An unread line reads in the ink, with a dot before its time; a read one is muted.

  • Click a line to open what it is about, the thread at the message or the task, and mark it read. Opening the thread or the channel anywhere marks it read too.
  • Use a line's ⋯ for Mark as read without opening it, or Mark as unread to keep it for later. It also has Open thread or Open task.
  • Mark all as read, at the right of the page's header, clears the lot.

With nothing yet, the page reads No notifications yet.

The Threads panel keeps count too: a channel or a direct message with something unread reads in semibold, with how many. In a channel, a thread that came since you last read it is marked New, with a bell when it holds something for you.

Who is typing

In a thread, and in a direct message between people, you see when someone else is writing: above the composer, Tom Becker is typing…, Tom Becker and Sophie Laurent are typing… or Several people are typing…. It shows for a few seconds after their last keystroke. A channel's own composer, which starts new threads, and a direct message with an agent show none.
