Add context to a thread

Give a thread the items it is about: start from an item, tag items with @, pick them in the + menu, keep them in the context panel, and keep a thread to spaces.

A thread keeps a curated context: the items it is about. Every agent that answers in the thread is given them on every turn, and opens what it needs with its tools, so it works on the right few things instead of searching the workspace. This page shows how to put items there and keep them tidy; Thread context explains how it works.

Start a thread about an item

Most pages about one thing, such as a task, a canvas, a data object, a workflow or a space, have a new-thread button, a speech bubble with a +, at the right of the app header. Its tooltip says what it starts, for example New thread about this task; on an agent's page it reads New thread with this agent. The thread starts with that item in its context, and the item open beside the composer.

A row's ⋯ menu or right-click menu also offers New thread for the same purpose.

Before you send, the item shows as a chip beside the +. Take it out with the chip's x to start without it.

Tag items in a message

Type @ and pick an item to refer to it in your message. After the agents, the list offers a few of each kind: Tasks, Canvas, Data, Files and Spaces; keep typing to search them. The item joins the thread's context, so the agent can read it. A file you tag is attached, as Select files attaches it.

In a channel's thread the list offers People too, and # names a channel.

Pick items in the + menu

Besides files, the composer's + menu adds who and what the thread starts with: Agents names one, and Tasks, Canvas, Data and Spaces each open a short search, where a click adds an item or takes it out again. The menu stays open, so you can pick several.

Files you attach with Select files or Upload files join the context too (see Attach files).

The context panel

Open it with the Context panel toggle at the right of the app header. The context shows beside the thread as collapsible cards, one per kind of item: tasks, canvases, workflows, executions, data and files, then the thread's spaces, each named after its kind, such as Tasks, Canvas or Document Extraction. A Visuals card lists the charts drawn in the thread; click one to scroll to it. Collapse to icons folds the panel to a narrow rail, and its left edge drags to resize it.

To add items:

  • Use the + beside the toggle (Add to the context), or the + on a card.
  • In the composer's + menu, open Tasks, Canvas or Data and click items to add or remove them.

Each item's menu opens it in a new tab (Open in new tab), offers Add to space, or takes it out of the context (Remove).

In a channel, a thread's first message shows a small context icon before its time when the thread holds items: rest the pointer on it to see how many.

Add a thread to spaces

A thread can belong to one or more spaces, and a space's page lists the threads started about it. Before you send, open Spaces in the composer's + menu and pick the spaces the thread keeps to: on every turn the agent is told those spaces' items and keeps to them. While the workspace has no space, the menu offers to create one. Once the thread has started, its spaces are in its context panel.
