Move a thread

Move a thread you started to another channel or a direct message, and see who will read it there.

Where a thread is decides who reads it. A thread you start with an agent is filed in your direct message with it, which only you see; to share it with your team, move it to a channel. You can also move a thread from one channel to another, or into a direct message with someone.

Who can move a thread

Only the person who started a thread can move it, and only while it is still theirs alone. Once someone else wrote in it, an agent answered someone else in it, or someone else added an item to its context, it stays where it is: moving it would show their words and items to people they never chose. Move to… is then greyed out and says Someone else wrote in it or added to it when you rest the pointer on it.

Move a thread

  1. Open Move to…:
    • from the thread's own ⋯, at the right of its header, or
    • in a channel, from the ⋯ on the thread's first message (rest the pointer on it), or by right-clicking it.
  2. Pick where it goes in Move thread. Search with Search channels and people…:
    • Channels lists the public channels and the private ones you are in.
    • Direct Messages lists your DMs with people, your DM with the thread's agent, and everyone else in the workspace: picking someone opens a DM with them.
  3. Read who will see it, in the footer, then click Move.

Move thread says who will see the thread where it goes.

The footer names the audience before you move:

  • a public channel: Everyone in the workspace will see it.
  • a private channel: Only the members of # and its name, for example Only the members of #nav-oversight will see it.
  • a person: Only that person and you will see it.
  • your DM with the thread's agent: Only you will see it.

Once moved, SPARK says so (Thread moved to #fee-checks). The thread lands at the newest end of its new place and reads as new there. Its messages, its context and its pins go with it, and links to it keep working. Moved out of your DM with an agent, the thread keeps its agent, which now answers only when someone names it.

A thread you can't open

A link to a thread you can't read, from a message, a notification or a pin, opens a notice in the thread's place: You don't have access to this thread. The thread is private to the people in it, or it was deleted: SPARK never says which. Ask the person who started it to move it to a channel you are in.
